Introduction
Cricket between Sri Lanka national cricket team and Bangladesh national cricket team has grown into one of the most interesting rivalries in modern cricket. It may not be as hyped like India vs Pakistan, but still, these two teams always bring competitive energy, unexpected twists and some emotional moments too.
This match was not just another ODI. It was one of those games where both teams had chances to win, both made mistakes, and both had players stepping up at different times. The game had phases where you think “ok this is over now”, but suddenly momentum shifted again.
Also, honestly speaking, this match was not perfect cricket. There were dropped catches, misfields, wrong shot selections, and some questionable decisions too. But thats what makes it feel real and exciting.

The pitch looked good initially for batting. Ball was coming nicely onto bat but later it slowed down just enough to trouble batters. Spinners were not dominating but they were definitely effective.
Pre-Match Expectations
Before the match started, many experts believed Bangladesh had slight edge because of their balanced squad. But Sri Lanka has always been tricky team, specially in Asian conditions.
Players like Shakib Al Hasan and Kusal Mendis were expected to play key roles. And in some way, they did.
But cricket is not played on paper. And this match proved that again.
Sri Lanka Innings – Building the Foundation
Sri Lanka started their innings in a cautious manner. Openers were not trying to attack too much early, maybe they were respecting the conditions or just being careful.

Top Order Performance
The opening pair gave a decent start but not explosive. Pathum Nissanka looked comfortable, playing classical cricket shots. His timing was good but sometimes he slowed down a bit too much.
Dimuth Karunaratne supported well but struggled to rotate strike consistently. There were few overs where almost no runs came, which maybe added pressure later.
Still, they built a platform which is very important in ODI cricket.
Middle Order Stability
This is where Sri Lanka really controlled the game.
Kusal Mendis played one of the most important innings. He was not just scoring runs, he was managing the game. Rotating strike, finding gaps, and hitting boundaries at right time.
His partnership with Charith Asalanka was crucial. They accelerated without taking too much risk.
Although there were few risky shots, like one lofted shot which almost got caught but luckily dropped. That moment could have changed match maybe.
Late Overs Acceleration
Sri Lanka tried to accelerate in last 10 overs. Some success came but also lost wickets quickly.
Players like Dasun Shanaka and Wanindu Hasaranga played quick cameos.
But honestly, last 5 overs were not that great. They could have scored 20–25 more runs easily. Few dot balls and mistimed shots cost them.
Still, reaching 300 is always competitive.
Bangladesh Bowling – Mixed Performance
Bangladesh bowlers had good moments but lacked consistency.
| Bowler | Overs | Runs | Wickets | Economy |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mustafizur Rahman | 10 | 58 | 3 | 5.80 |
| Taskin Ahmed | 9.5 | 62 | 2 | 6.30 |
| Shoriful Islam | 8 | 49 | 1 | 6.12 |
| Mehidy Hasan Miraz | 10 | 46 | 2 | 4.60 |
| Shakib Al Hasan | 10 | 52 | 2 | 5.20 |
Mustafizur Rahman picked wickets but also conceded runs. His variations were good but sometimes predictable.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz was probably most economical. He controlled middle overs nicely.
But overall, death bowling was weak. That made difference.
Bangladesh Chase – Pressure Begins Early
Chasing 301 was always going to be tricky. Bangladesh needed a strong start but things did not go perfectly.

Middle Order Fightback
Najmul Hossain Shanto played solid innings. Calm, composed, tried to build partnerships.
Shakib Al Hasan once again showed experience. He kept scoreboard moving.
At one stage, Bangladesh was looking in control. Required run rate was manageable.

| Dhananjaya de Silva | 10 | 60 | 1 | 6.00 |
Wanindu Hasaranga and Maheesh Theekshana controlled middle overs very well.
They did not allow easy boundaries. Batters had to take risks.
